Registration Packet

     To make the process of registration  faster and more convenient for parents and students, we have made the registration packet available online for you to complete at your own discretion. For new students, simply bring your completed forms to our registration day at the start of each semester. [All students must be at least 7 years old to join FGBYO strings and 8 years old to join FGBYO guitars. Age verification is required.] For returning students, in lieu of attending registration day, you may mail in your completed forms and payment by August 24 to:

Fall 2018 Semester Fees:

  • Tuition: $100 (first student), $85 (subsequent siblings)
  • Instrument Rental Fee: $40
  • FGBYO Shirt (required for performances): $40

Audition Requirements


     Any member wishing to advance to the next level will be required to audition.  The criteria for advancement are as follows (all groups will be required to sight read, play a prepared number and scales):


Beginner to Intermediate


  • A written recommendation from your teacher

  • Simple Gifts from Essential Elements: Book I 

  • Violin - Two octave G major scale and one octave either A or D major scale

  • Viola/Cello/Bass - Two octave C major scale and one octave either G or D major scale

Intermediate to Advanced


  • Selection from Suzuki Book 3 beyond the first two pieces
  • Violins - Three octave D major scale and two octave scale of your choice
  • Viola/Cello/Bass - Two octave C major scale, one octave G scale
  • Sight reading


[Wind, Percussion, Etc.]

  • Woodwinds - Two octave Bb major and A major scales, four-measure sight-reading exercise, to be supplied at audition time, and an honor band exercise of your choice
  • Brass - Two octave Bb major scale, four-measure sight-reading exercise, to be supplied at audition time, and an honor band exercise of your choice
  • Percussion - Ability to play a variety of rhythms in 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, and 6/8 time signatures. (Snare players also need to be able to play a roll.)
